If so, you may be eligible to participate in a study using parathyroid hormone (PTH) as an investigational treatment for hypoparathyroidism. This study (Protocol 07-D-0016) is being conducted by researchers at the National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research, which is part of the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, Maryland. The purposes of the study are to better understand the effects of hypoparathyroidism on the skeleton and to evaluate the effects of parathyroid hormone replacement therapy on bone in hypoparathyroidism. It is hoped that information gained from this study will lead to improved treatments for hypoparathyroidism. There is no cost for participation in this research study.
The study is recruiting participants who are:
- Premenopausal women between 18 – 45 years of age or
- Postmenopausal women who are 53 - 70 years of age and have not had a menstrual cycle within the past 5 years or
- Men 18 – 70 years of age
- Diagnosed with hypoparathyroidism for at least one year.
